The short answer

What does a fall cleanup on Cape Cod include?

A fall cleanup clears the leaves, pine needles and storm debris off your lawn and beds, cuts back spent perennials and leaves the property tidy for winter. On the Cape, the timing matters: oaks drop late, so the best window usually runs from late October through November. Every yard is different, so we confirm the exact list for your property when we quote it.
  • Leaves and needles cleared from lawn, beds and hardscape
  • Perennials cut back, beds cleaned out
  • Lawn left clear so it does not smother under wet leaves

Fall Cleanup

What a typical fall cleanup covers

01

Leaf and needle removal

Lawn, beds, patios and walkways cleared of leaves, pine needles and fallen branches. Wet leaves left on grass through winter are a common cause of dead patches in spring.

02

Garden bed cleanup

Spent annuals pulled, perennials cut back where it makes sense, and beds cleared so they are ready for mulch or planting in spring.

03

Shrub and edge tidy up

Light shaping of overgrown shrubs and clean edges along beds and walks, so the property looks cared for all winter.

04

Final mow

A last, slightly shorter cut helps the lawn shed snow and lowers the risk of matted grass and snow mold.

05

Storm debris

Branches and limbs brought down by fall wind and early nor'easters gathered up before they get buried in snow.

06

Debris handled

We talk through how the debris leaves your property when we quote, so there is nothing left in piles at the curb.

Timing

When to book a fall cleanup on the Cape

Cape Cod yards drop their leaves in stages. Maples and locusts go first, then the oaks hold on well into November. Book too early and the yard fills up again a week later. Book too late and you are racing the first snow.

For most properties the sweet spot is late October through November. Larger lots with a lot of oak cover sometimes do better with two visits: one mid season and one final pass once the trees are bare.

Fall is also when crews across the Cape get booked up fast, especially for second homes that close after the summer. Reaching out early is the simplest way to land a date that fits your schedule.

Local know-how

Why fall cleanup is different on Cape Cod

Oak and pitch pine

Oak leaves are thick and slow to break down, and pine needles keep falling. Both pile up in beds and along foundations if nobody clears them.

Seasonal homes

Many Cape houses sit empty from fall to spring. A cleanup before you close up means you come back to a yard, not a mess.

Wind and early storms

Fall nor'easters bring down limbs and push leaves into corners. A cleanup after the big blows catches what the wind left behind.

Sandy soil

Cape soil drains fast and stays thin. Clearing smothering leaves lets the lawn breathe and keeps what nutrients you have where the roots can use them.

Fall Cleanup questions

Usually late October through November, once most of the leaves are down. Properties with a lot of oak often benefit from a second pass after the oaks finish dropping.
It depends on the size of the property, how many trees drop on it, how many beds there are and how the debris needs to be handled. The quote is free, with no trip fee, and it is based on your actual property.
No. Many of the homes we work on are second homes. As long as we can reach the yard, we can do the work and let you know when it is done.
A thin layer of shredded leaves is fine, but a thick, wet layer on grass blocks light and air and often leaves dead or moldy patches in spring. Beds and lawn are better off cleared.
Yes. If a tree needs trimming, a limb is hanging over the roof or a walkway needs repair, we can look at it in the same visit, since tree work and hardscaping are part of what we do.
Yes. Spring cleanup is part of the full landscaping work we do. Tell us what the yard needs after winter and we will quote it for free.
