The short answer

What hardscaping projects do you build on Cape Cod?

We build paver patios, walkways and retaining walls for Cape Cod homes. On sandy soil, a patio lasts because of the base under it: the right depth of compacted gravel, edge restraint and a plan for where the water goes. Every project is quoted after we see the site and talk about how you want to use the space.

Hardscaping

Hardscaping we build

01

Paver patios

A place for the grill, the table and the chairs, sized to how you actually use the yard and set on a compacted base so it stays flat.

02

Walkways and paths

Front walks, side paths and garden paths that replace worn grass lines and muddy shortcuts with a clean, solid route.

03

Retaining walls

Walls that hold a slope, level a section of yard or create raised planting beds, with drainage behind them so they do not push out over time.

04

Steps and transitions

Steps down a slope or from a deck to the yard, built to match the patio or walk.

05

Repairs and resets

Sunken, heaved or shifted pavers lifted, base corrected and reset, which is often a better value than starting over.

06

Planting around it

Because we also do landscaping, the beds and lawn around the new hardscape can be finished in the same project.

Timing

When to plan hardscaping on the Cape

Spring and fall are the busiest building seasons. If you want a patio ready for summer, planning it in late winter or early spring gives you the best shot at your preferred dates.

Fall is a great time to build, too. The ground is workable, the summer crowds are gone and the patio is ready the moment the weather turns warm again.

Work stops when the ground freezes. If you are thinking about a project for next year, starting the conversation now costs nothing and puts you ahead of the spring rush.

Local know-how

What Cape Cod soil and weather ask of hardscape

Sand moves

Cape soil is sandy and loose. Without a deep, compacted base and solid edge restraint, pavers drift and sink.

Freeze and thaw

Winter cycles push on anything holding water. Good drainage under and around the patio is what keeps it level.

Salt air

Near the water, material choice matters. We talk through options that hold their look in coastal conditions.

Slopes and grade

Many Cape lots slope toward the water or the road. Retaining walls and steps turn an awkward grade into usable space.

FAQ

Hardscaping questions

Straight answers for Cape Cod homeowners. Have a different question? Call or text us.

It depends on the size, the paver or stone you choose, how much digging and base work the site needs, and access for equipment. The site visit and quote are free, so the number reflects your yard.
Almost always because of the base: not enough compacted gravel, no edge restraint, or water collecting underneath. On sandy Cape soil the base is the most important part of the job.
Often, yes. Sunken or uneven pavers can usually be lifted, the base corrected and the pavers reset.
Low garden walls usually do not, but taller walls and work near wetlands or the shore can need approval from your town. We will point it out if your project might.
It depends on size and site conditions. We give you an expected timeline with the quote, once we know what the base and access look like.
Yes. Beds, plantings and lawn repair around new hardscape can be part of the same project.
